Facebook Hack
Over the weekend I was glancing through my Facebook profile and noticed that I had become a fan of Smoking Hot Bartenders on http://cutebartenders.info. Wait…what? I don’t recall becoming a fan of that. I *do* recall seeing it linked on several of my friend’s pages but I don’t believe I would have become a fan of it. Well technically I *did* become a fan of it, I just didn’t want to. Here’s how the “hack” works: The site sets up a front page that prompts people to click to continue on to the main portion of the site. That main page is actually composed entirely of a hidden iframe that has the script associated with posting a “like” status to your Facebook page embedded within it. Not terribly clever but still clever enough that it caught me. I went back to the page to take a look and found the iframe.
To get rid of it in Firefox using the AdBlock Plus add-on, add a filter to block |http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?*. The end result is that all websites that have the “Like” functionality to it will no longer allow that to work. I personally am fine with that – other folks may not be.
