    we discussed via IM but…
I far prefer the standard aspect most of the time. I’d certainly take the 20″ standard over the 21″ wide, but the 24″ wide would be a tough choice. It’s a lot of pixels to push for gaming, but for other uses the wide real-estate would be awesome, so toss up where you need to pick primary use.

Gaming though? 20″ standard wins in my book.

I voted for 20′ standard, not being a fan of the widescreen–but wanted to add that I’ve been totally spoiled by my lab, where we almost always work on two screens. Twooooo screeeeeeens. Neither practical nor affordable for home use, but damn it’s nice for working with multiple programs.

Heh, that is 20″ standard. 20′ might be slightly excessive.

Yeah, I’m going to have to echo miz SquidProQuo– if you want the full and proper l33tness, you want a dual head setup

Actually it’s not all that expensive really, and I use a two screen setup in the office. My home rig is strictly a light development/gaming rig, so two monitors aren’t really necessary at home.

    20′ would be awesome!

I’m leaning toward the 20″ widescreen right now. There seems to be decent support for the native resolution, and it would give me a larger screen than i have now without completely taking over my desktop. Plus the non-widescreen monitors seem to have a poorer response time which I definitely don’t want in a monitor.

Technically true l33tness comes from a three monitor setup. Still, it’s overkill for what I need in the house.

Ah, so THAT’s why they don’t call it l22tness.

have you looked at them side by side purely for size? I strongly suggest a trip to Microcenter or CompUSA to do so if not. 20″ wide is going to be a lot less total space than 20″ standard.

Ah well…it also appears that the largest standard size monitor that newegg carries is 19″

Comparing comparable monitors though, a 19″ standard is (WxDxH) 16.4″ x 8.0″ x 16.3″ whereas a widescreen 19″ is 17.8″ x 7.5″ x 15.4″ and 1280 x1024 vs. 1400×900. The 20″ native resolution is 1680×1050. Currently I’m running 12 1280×1024, so I’m not losing any desktop space on the vertical. Still it’s a good call to go take a look at them before I buy. I’ve been needing to get a Costco membership for awhile now, so I may check out the floor display models they have there just to get a better feel for the different sizes.
