Used to be a warhammer shop in Harvard sq., but I think it closed.
http://www.pandemoniumbooks.com/ in Central Sq. is probably your best bet in the city, not sure what’s available further out in the burbs.

Sweet, I didn’t realize they sold painting supplies. I’ll have to head in and check out what they’ve got. Thanks :)

Yeah, Warhammer is gone, they’re not doing any retail stores anymore. My brother was a manager for their Holyoke MA store. I may even have some paints around I’ve never used, you’re welcome to them if I can find them :) Pandemonium should have the stock from Your Move that got moved over, so definitely your best bet :)

for painting supplies, michaels or ac moore (i took Z to ac moore for the paint he got for his warhammer minis)

I got basic spray primer (in black) and then paint for over that.

I’m kind of thankful it’s gone. As much as I really enjoyed 40K, my wallet most certainly did not. I was a pretty decent miniature painter though, so I recouped most of my costs selling them off after I was done. Still…that was a *lot* of miniatures.

Nate (brother) had the same problem too, that and they kinda screwed him on the “paying him to actually be a manager” thing. He loved it though.

*Checks Google Maps for AC Moore*

Ooo…there’s one near my office. I know where I’m headed at lunch. Thanks :)

Michael’s is another chain in the area and sometimes cheaper. Neither will actually sell “official” WH40K paints, but they usually have a wide assortment of acrylics, brushes, and primer/sealant supplies.

Drop Drew a line. Before he got into the whole house-fixin’ thing, he was pretty handy with a brush, so he should know what options are open.

They do. I used to get everything online, though.

Mini-branded paints and associated supplies, e.g. Games Workshop, tend to be decent quality and overpriced. I used to get brushes, files, tools etc. from hardware stores and art supply stores, so anything like Pearl should be able to help you out, or an RC hobbyist store. For brushes especially art supply stores are the way to go – you want high quality watercolor brushes, I used to swear by Windsor & Newton series 7.

For paints, I don’t know where you can find them in the area, but try Vallejo Model Color, easily available online.

I experimented with a wide variety of paints for my miniatures since I found that the Games Workshop branded products really just didn’t last. Even with good primer base coats, the paint just didn’t adhere well enough to be long lasting. I never did find something that I was terribly happy with – it might very well have been the spray primer that was the actual culprit though and not the paints. I’ve never tried the Vallejo paints before, I might have to give them a shot.

For brushes I was a Kolinsky sable fan – most of my detail work I did with a #1 liner, and the rest was with a #2 round brush. Dry brushing I did with the cheapest piece of crap brush I could get my hands on.

I’m fine with it not coming from Games Workshop – I was never terribly impressed with the quality of their products anyway.

Rockin’. I’ll shoot him an email and see what his advice is. Thanks.
