I keep seeing the term “cisgender” popping up all over the place and am completely baffled by the definitions I’ve found. Wikipedia for instance states that cisgender is “an adjective used in the context of gender issues and counselling to refer to a class of gender identities formed by a match between an individual’s gender identity and the behavior or role considered appropriate for one’s sex.” So to put it into context then (I think), it at least sounds like someone who both identifies as a guy and seeks out the gender-specific norms of a guy qualifies as cisgendered? For lack of a better label, isn’t that just “normal?” Since I identify as a guy and generally want a male gender role, doesn’t that make me cisgendered by that definition?
I feel like I’m missing something in this definition because I’m seeing it used in reference to people who identify as a gender different than what they were born into, which I always thought was referred to as transgender. Those of you in the know, can you clarify these things for me?
I seem to have a nerve trapped that doesn’t appear to be freeing itself any time soon. I’ll be paying a visit to ye olde doctor to make certain it’s nothing more serious, but assuming that it is what I think than I need the help of a chiropractor (and possibly a skilled masseuse). Any local recommendations for either?
I have a friend in from out of town tonight who is eying Tufts for a Master’s degree. I was thinking of keeping things around the Medford area food-wise, but I don’t know that area that well. Obviously we could just drive a few miles and get to Cambridge or Sommerville, but I figured I’d check with the locals. Are there places in Medford that aren’t too terribly expensive with awesome food that needs to be experienced?
Back in the day I used to play Warhammer 40K. I spent an enormous amount of time and effort painting an epic number of dwarves with mohawks; I used to use them in D&D campaigns. This was clearly more popular than I thought and Hasbro/WotC put out plastic miniatures that could be used for D&D as well. They’re great and I love using them, but I miss painting miniatures. I’m starting up as a player in a new campaign and I really want to paint the miniature I use for the game. Where would one go for painting supplies of this kind up here? I can obviously order them online, but I prefer being able to browse. I’m sure I could probably piece together what I need from Blick, but a hobby shop of some kind would have more of what I need all in one place.
